We had one member of staff that we knew had a problem. He was a driver who fell asleep at the lights while driving a truck and we sent him to a doctor for investigation. I then met Rhonda Russo of Sleep for Health and Safety (SHS) via Quality Occupational Health. SHS came in to do a presentation to around 30 staff and sleep disorder questionnaires were handed out. When these were assessed, a number of the questionnaires set off alarm bells. We invited several staff members back for an overnight sleep screening and two people were identified with significant sleep apnea. These people then had a trial with a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) device and are now on treatment.
We were very happy with the whole process and glad we did it as both these staff members are employed in jobs driving vehicles. We’ll be running the program again in the near future.

We had a presentation from Dr David Allen of Quality Occupational Health and realised that sleep screening would be a very valuable exercise for us to do. Around 30 Veolia staff members from two sites went through the Sleep for Health and Safety screening process and some of those went on to receive treatment.
Sleep for Health and Safety is an excellent company to work with and the whole process was very straightforward. It’s definitely benefited Veolia and we’re running the program again. We had excellent employee feedback too with those that went on to receive treatment have reporting back that they feel so much better now.
